So you have five word pairs to work on that you have chosen from your handout. A good work process would be to thoroughly refresh yourself on what the word actually means (look it up) and then begin strategizing your attack from there. It is always best to work out ideas on paper, and then go to the computer. This method of working means YOU are controlling the computer, not the computer controlling you.
Set up your files as a 10" x 5" Illustrator document and draw a guide down the middle to represent the left and right sides of your spread. In addition to thinking about each individual word and how you can manipulate it for maximum visual impact the way we did in class today, it gets a little more complicated. Now you must concept the composition not only for the word and how it sits in space, but also how that word relates to its partner across the spread.
On Thursday, I expect to see 5 different ideas for each of your five word pairs (25 sketches in all). This might be done on the computer or on paper. I would rather see good, solid ideas on paper than completed computer files. If you are showing me your ideas on paper, be sure they are rendered in enough detail so I can understand your intentions.
We will end class 45 minutes early on Thursday evening for the talk by Alicia Prentice at 7:30.
