Before beginning of class on Thursday:
• Scan all artwork at 300 dpi so that it will fit into a 12" x 18" composition. You can always scale down in InDesign, but scaling up in size will eventually create unacceptable bitmapping.
• Do a minimum of 20 thumbnails BEYOND the ones you did in class today. Your thumbnail drawings should be quick and descriptive, but disciplined enough to be working with light/dark, texture of the type, composition of the white or negative space
• Set up an InDesign file with a grid of columns and rows (doing this in Master pages is a good way to do this if you know how, if not--I can show you on Thurs.)
• Using your best thumbnails as a guide, create a minimum of 5 different poster designs for class critique at full size. These must include an image, your headline, tagline, and the five "W"s (who, what, when, where, why.) Bring your files as a PDF if you are working on a computer NOT in the lab--remember the fonts will not likely translate.
• BEFORE class, load your files on the "Teacher" machine for projecting.
BRING IN EXAMPLES OF DESIGNS WHERE YOU CAN RECOGNIZE/IDENTIFY THE UNDERLYING STRUCTURE OF THE COMPOSITION. We will discuss these at the beginning of class. (Magazines are the easiest places to look for this.)
